With v brakes the spring often extends up the side of the brake arm look for a piece of thick wire. If you have side pull brakes that lack adjustment screws you can still centre the pads. If your wheel is still rubbing in one specific spot after adjusting your brakes that might mean your wheel is the issue not your brakes. Remove the nut and washers from your old brake pads and pull the pad free from the caliper arm.
