Bicycle Inner Tube Too Big
I have a 28 size tire and needing to replace the tube.
Bicycle inner tube too big. Most valves are 32mm long with the exception of some road bikes. I used a continental race 28 inner tube and lo and behold. Not too wide for the rim but too long. Road bike tubes with too large of a diameter can fold over inside the tire causing a bumpy ride and damage to the inner tube.
Verify the state of the rim tape. So while the inner tube we buy for one of our examples above has to be 700c in diameter the width it will suit may be marked on the box as 23 25c or even 20 28c. A damaged tape will favor flats. Unlike an inner tube s diameter which is fixed an inner tube s volume can operate effectively over quite a wide range.
Change it if needed. If a tube is too big in overall diameter there is a danger that it will telescope inside the tire similar to intussusception of your intestines resulting in a lump and eventually a split in the tube. However whilst fitting the new tire and inner tube i noticed that the inner tube had about an inch or two of excess length to it. I have on my bike a 700 x 25 tyre on the back and i have just put a 700 x 23 tyre on the front. It was too big. This mean i had to tuck it into the tire doubled back on itself. Would you recommend using that or am i risking stretching the tube too far.
How you use your bicycle is a big factor in the type of tube you ll want to buy. As i recall the ones i typically have used are bontrager 700 x28c 32c which seem a bit too much but end up working. Each size of bicycle inner tube has a schrader style valve so it s easy and familiar to use when inflating or deflating your tire. 3 8 out of 5 stars 131 ratings based on 131 reviews current price 11 39 11.
Having the tube inflated too much while installing it is one way you can get this situation. Here is step by step on how to change correctly a road bike tire with an inner tube. That s changed now with the advent of tubeless tyres first in mountain bikes and now increasingly in road bikes too. On taking off the old tyre i thought i would put a new inner tube in as well.
I realized that my spare is actually sized for a 700 x 23c 25c. I ve recently changed the default 700x35 tires and 35mm schrader inner tube to 700x25 slicks with 25mm presta inner tubes. There was a time when every bike had an inner tube in each tyre. As with other inner tubes with a shorter valve the sunlite bicycle inner tube valve works well with an extender if you need a longer valve.
